Morning-After Pill
Often called the “morning-after pill,” emergency contraception is intended to prevent pregnancy after known or suspected contraceptive failure or unprotected intercourse. Plan B One-Step™ and ella® work differently and have specific risks and side effects.

Plan B One-Step™
Plan B One-Step™ is a single pill that contains a large amount of the progesterone hormone found in some birth control pills. It is recommended to be taken within 72 hours of sexual contact.

What are the side effects?
Potential side effects include:

  • Changes in your menstrual cycle
  • Nausea
  • Lower abdominal pain
  • Tiredness
  • Headache
  • Dizziness

Plan B One-Step™ is not recommended to be used as a routine form of birth control.

ella® is a progesterone-blocking hormone intended for use within five days of unprotected sex or contraceptive failure. It is not to be used in the case of known or suspected pregnancy.

What are the side effects?
Most common side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Menstrual cramps
  • Tiredness
  • Dizziness
